James W. Mathy, 83, of Topeka, KS died May 20, 2015 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born May 17, 1932 in Morrowville, KS the son of Ed and Lulu Belle (Cummings) Mathy. James graduated from Morrowville High School in 1950 and moved to Topeka in 1951. He was in the US Army serving in the 47th Engineering Camouflage Battalion. In 1953 he attended radio and TV repair school in Kansas City, MO. Upon completion of schooling he began a 36 year career working for Ed Marlings retiring in 1994. He was a member of the American Legion Post #400 and attended Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He married Peggy Bonar in 1952, they later divorced in 1973. He then married Nancy Woodard in 1982. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Sonia D. Mathy Johnson of Topeka, two sons, Mitchell J. Mathy of Kansas City, MO, Brett L. Mathy and his wife, Jill of Home, KS, two step-sons, Danny and his wife Sylvia, and Randy Woodard all of Topeka. Seven granddaughters, Britt Olsen, Megan Woods, Stephanie Mathy, Melissa Ford, Gabrielle Mathy, Kellan Haffner, Makenna Mathy, one grandson, Brian Mathy, four step-grandsons, Jason, Joshua, Brandon and Taylor Woodard along with four great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clarebell Jandera and a brother, Harold E. Mathy. The family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until 10:00 A.M. Friday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church. Interment with military honors being provided by the American Legion Post #400 will follow in Prairie Home Cemetery.
