Anthony Servantez Sr.

Anthony "Tony" Servantez, 79, of Topeka, died May 9, 2015 at the House at Midland Care surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 10, 1935 in Topeka, the son of Lorenzo and Maria (Peralta) Cervantez. Tony served during the Korean Conflict with the US Army. He continued public employment with the State of Kansas, Shawnee County and retired from the City of Topeka Water Department. He enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren, listening to Mexican music and dancing with his loving wife of 62 years. Tony dedicated his life to youth and was especially proud of his work with under privileged youth in the Rent A Kid program. He coached AAU Basketball, SCABBA Baseball and Girls Softball for over 30 years. Tony married Rita Martinez on November 8, 1952 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Tony Servantez Jr. of Topeka, two daughters, Theresa (Eddie) Gibson of Forest Lake, MN, Cindy (Sue Green) Servantez of Topeka, three brothers, Joe, Frank and Manuel, three sisters, Lola Vega and Lupe Guerrero of Topeka, and Carol Garcia of Las Vegas, NV, 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two children, Ernest and Mary Delores Servantez, three brothers and three sisters. Tony will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and a parish rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Military honors will follow the mass and will be conducted by the Vietnam Veterans Association. Cremation will follow the Mass. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Midland Hospice Care or St. Francis Cancer Center and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
