Pauline Mary (Waske) Hayes, 97, of Topeka, KS, died January 19, 2015 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born February 27, 1917 in Talmage, IA the daughter of Louis and Ida (Weis) Waske. Prior to her marriage she taught in a one room school house in Thayer, IA. Pauline was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society. She was also a member of the Spalding Reading Circle, St Theresa's Mission Serving Group and she enjoyed playing Bridge. Pauline married Harry E. Hayes on February 5, 1940 in Afton, IA. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia (Hayes) Schoenfeld and her husband, Robert, a son-in-law, James A. Hane, two brothers Albert and Joseph Waske, along with four sisters, Helen Ostergaard, Kathryn Dunn, Hilda Seeley and Agnes Fredrickson. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen (Hayes) Hane of Lawrence, four grandsons, Steven Schoenfeld, Brian Schoenfeld, Scott Hane and Christopher Hane. Seven great-grandchildren also survive. She will lie in state after 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Thursday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
