Louis Zendejas Serrano, 83, of Topeka, died December 27, 2014 at McCrite Plaza Health Center. He was born on June 21, 1931 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Carlos and Paula (Zendejas) Serrano. Louis attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Elementary School and was a graduate of Hayden High School. He also attended Washburn University. Louis served in the U.S. Army and in the reserves until his retirement from the military. He also worked for the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center as a Lab Technician. He enjoyed traveling, photography and building model airplanes. He was a member of LULAC, the American GI Forum and was a boy scout and a Scout Master. He was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and was an active FIESTA volunteer. He and his brothers used to sing and dance at the FIESTA. Louis is survived by his siblings, Vicente Z. (Carmen) Serrano of Littleton, Colorado, Philip Carlos "Junior" (Emily) Serrano of Topeka, Peter Alfonso (Bridget) Serrano of Topeka, Leocadia S. Navarro of Topeka and Margaret S. (Paul) Cortez of Tecumseh. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Natividad Serrano who died in infancy. Louis will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
