Catherine Jean Kutka, 82, of Topeka, died December 20, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital in Topeka. She was born in George, Iowa on January 15, 1932 the daughter of Ralph and Bertha Mae (Martin) Veenker. Catherine received a degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State Teacher's College and Bachelors of Business Administration degree with a focus on Accounting from Washburn University. She retired from the State of Kansas (ESSI) where she was a Systems Analyst. Catherine was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She enjoyed bird watching and traveling. Catherine married Emil Kutka at Holy Name Catholic Church on May 1, 1965. He survives her. She is also survived by a daughter Lori Jean Kutka Porter M.D. and her husband Brian and their children, Clare Catherine, Ryan and Michael Porter all of Virginia. Her siblings are: Martin Veenker, deceased; Ralph Veenker of Iowa, Mary Jo Haarsma of Iowa, Judith Veenker of Texas, Rita Stockman of Texas, Dorothy (Donald) Staas of Texas, and Linda Veenker (Cris Johnson) of California. Catherine will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. where a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
