Marjorie Nell (Spillman) Hassur, formerly of Topeka, died on November 7, 2014 in Washington State. She was born in Wilson County, Kansas on September 19, 1919 the daughter of Jacob Nelson and Floss Marr Spillman. She was a 1936 graduate of Fredonia High School, attended Independence Junior College and received her BS degree from K-State in 1942 and her MBA from Northwestern University in 1942. Marjorie was an Accountant for Quaker Oats in Grand Island, NE, Folgers Coffee Co. in Kansas City, MO, General Electric in Richland, WA and for Dr. G. M. Hassur, her husband who was a dentist. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Phi Kappa Phi Scholastic Honor Society at K-State, American Association of University Women, Women's Club at MPH, St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, Topeka and Kansas Dental Auxiliary, and the Carousel-Rendezvous Dance Club. Marjorie was an active volunteer at St. Francis Hospital, for various church committees, the Stay-In-School Project at Topeka High and for Let's Help Lunch Program. She married Gilbert M. Hassur in Fredonia, Kansas on July 10, 1943. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1999. She is survived by her son, Michael J. Hassur of Puyallup, WA, two grandsons, Tucker U. Hassur and Connor U. Hassur, a brother, Theo K. Spillman of Bella Vista, AR. and her nieces and nephew. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Flo Miller. Marjorie's family will receive friends and have refreshments from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. in the Formation Room in the church hall. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 22nd at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Francis Hospital and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
