Henry M. "Hank" Hendrickson, 85, of Topeka, died on October 16, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Trinidad, Colorado on December 26, 1928 the son of Merle and Louise (Westerfeld) Hendrickson. Hank graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1947 and worked for Cole's IGA in Lawrence, Kansas until he was called to the Army serving from 1950 to 1952. He served in Korea for 14 months as a Mess Sgt. for Rifle Company G, 19th Regiment, 7th Division. Upon returning from service, he went to work for A & P as a meat cutter, transferring to Topeka in 1959 for the opening of the new A & P at 29th and Kansas Ave. where he worked until it closed. He then worked for Safeway until his retirement in 1994. After retirement he worked for the Topeka Auto Auction part time and then at Ed Bozarth Chevrolet where he delivered parts until December of 2009. Hank was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #534. For many years he was the Athletic Director at St. Matthew Catholic School. He was very active in youth sports and coaching. He married Phyllis Ann Roeckers on July 20, 1953 at St. Therese Catholic Church in Richmond, Kansas. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2010. He was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Janie (Jeff) Hendrickson on January 4, 2012, his parents and a brother, John. Hank is survived by his children, Alan Hendrickson , Keith (Mary Kay) Hendrickson, Jeff Hendrickson all of Topeka, Jim (Shari) Hendrickson of Olathe, Ks., Ann (John) Janca of Topeka, his grandchildren; Jason (Kelly) Hendrickson, Jeremy (Gena) Hendrickson, Kailyn Hendrickson, Tyler Hendrickson, Julie (Luke) Domme, Jessi (Kasey) Clark, Jenni Hendrickson, James Hendrickson, and Sarah Hendrickson, great grandchildren, Joele Hendrickson, Kelson Hendrickson, Elliott Domme, Lillya Domme and Meredith Clark, a sister-in-law, June Hendrickson of Omaha, NE and many nieces and nephews. He will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial with military honors provided by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
