Daniel Herman Negrete Sr.

Daniel Herman "Danny" Negrete, Sr., 76, of Topeka, passed away September 10, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 4, 1938 the son of Rudolph Alexander and Natalia (Alonzo) Negrete Sr. Danny was a simple man who had many titles, including son, nephew, brother, uncle, friend, husband, father, grandfather, "Papa" and "Pops". He loved spending time with his family and the laughter that came from them. He loved the shine of the sun and a sly crack of a joke followed with a grin. He also enjoyed working in his yard, fishing, going to the casino, and spending time in his garage. Hard work never scared him. His back was strong, with a hand to lend always. He married Marilyn S. Bennett in Topeka, Kansas on April 13, 1974. She survives. He is also survived by two daughters, Mary Negrete and Tamara Negrete, a son, Dan (Chrissy) Negrete Jr., five grandsons, William, James, Jeremiah, David, and Tommy, his siblings, Sylvester (Rose) Negrete, Angelina Lucero, Elizabeth Treadwell, Maria Delores (David) Perez, Rosemary (Adam) Villalobos and Martha Conner all of Topeka, and two uncles, Enrique Alonzo of Portland, Maine, and Jose Alonzo of Roeland Park, Kansas. He was preceded in death by two brothers Norman Negrete Sr., and Rudolph Negrete Jr. Danny will lie in state on Sunday, September 14th, at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a parish rosary prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 15th, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences and fond memories may be left at www.brennanmathenafh.com.
