Gary Wayne Staerkel

Gary Wayne Staerkel, 63, of Topeka, Kansas died September 2, 2014 at The House at Midland Care. He was born June 21, 1951 in Topeka, Kansas the son of Herbert and Donna (Hailey) Staerkel Sr. Gary was a 1969 graduate of Topeka High School. He enjoyed cars, operating his Ham Radio and playing the guitar. He played in a band for charity at the V.A. Hospital. He also worked as a custodian for the V.A. Gary is survived by a sister, Nancy Scheck of Paxico, and a brother H. Fred Staerkel Jr. of Hoyt, his nieces and nephews, Julie Figgs, Jamie Scheck, Jason Scheck, Dawn Staerkel, Todd Staerkel, Cindy Staerkel, and Matthan Staerkel. He will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery at 6th and Gage. Military honors will be provided by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to Midland Hospice, sent in care of the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
