Maria J. "Hazel" Rocha

Maria J. "Hazel" Rocha, 87, of Topeka died August 26, 2014 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born December 15, 1926 in Topeka, KS the daughter of Rito, Sr. and Leonila (Mata) Valdivia. Hazel was a life member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society and was a Fiesta volunteer. She enjoyed listening to music, cooking and spending time with her family. She absolutely adored her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She married John T. Rocha on April 20, 1947 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2010. She is survived by a son, George Rocha and his wife Loretta of Berryton, KS, a daughter Jeanette Peterson of Las Vegas, NV, seven grandchildren, Vincent, Jessica, Matthew, Zach, Kyle, Jesse and Honor along with seven great grandchildren, Antonio, Cameron, Vince, Lilly, Logan, Eva and Luna, six sisters, Maria "Pana" Chavez (Tony), Lucy Martin, Carmen Torres, Susan Perez (John), Monica Matchett (David, Mary Ann Tejada (Carlos) and three brothers, Rito Valdivia, Jr. (Bertha), Angel Valdivia (Mary) and Raymundo Valdivia. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, one brother and one grandson. Hazel will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. with a Parish and Altar Society Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
