Francis Ernest William Weiss, 96, of Topeka, died August 5, 2014 at Clare Bridge of Topeka. He was born January 24, 1918 to Louis and Lydia (Will) Weiss. Francis served in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War. He later worked in the Insurance Business as a Safety Engineer. Francis enjoyed fishing and refinishing furniture. He was a member of the American Legion and the Philip Billard Post #1650 of the V.F.W. He married Juanita Marian Zuck on June 14, 1937 in Ft. Dodge, Iowa. She survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Cynthia Rickert of Topeka, 3 sisters: Rosemary Weiss, Gloria Larson, and Veronica Ault, all of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, two grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Francis was preceded in death by his siblings, Harold Weiss, Victor Weiss, and Ruth Sperry, Esther King, Margaret Walters, and Cecelia Mitchell, Florence Weiss, and Freida Mehlert. Francis will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m., where the family will greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, 901 Fillmore. Services in Ft. Dodge will be handled by Gunderson Funeral Home and Crematory Services, 1615 N. 15th, Ft. Dodge, Iowa 50501, where a visitation will be held on Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery in Ft. Dodge with military honors.
