Sharon A. Richardson, 79 of Topeka died Monday, June 30, 2014 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born April 25, 1935 in Horton, KS the daughter of John and Alice (Berry) Schmidt. Sharon worked at the Topeka Capital Journal retiring in 1993. She was a member of Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar Society at the church and the American Legion Auxiliary for 66 years. She volunteered at Let's Help. Sharon loved animals and enjoyed cooking, traveling and helping with funeral dinners at the church. She married Edmond Richardson on October 2, 1981 at Holy Name Catholic Church. He survives. Other survivors include three step sons, Edmond Richardson, Jr. and his wife Augusta, Michael Richardson and his wife Joye and Daniel Richardson all of Topeka. Six step grandchildren and six step great grandchildren also survive as well and many cousins nieces and nephews. Sharon will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 p.m. A Vigil Prayer Service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
