Marlene Kay Zercher, 70, of Topeka, died June 14, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital. She was born in Topeka, Kansas, on April 21, 1944, the daughter of Olaf and Erna (Lenhart) Rubin. Marlene enjoyed fishing, camping, and loved watching baseball, especially the Yankees. She was a long time member of St. Joseph and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She worked at Kansas Neurological Institute and the Topeka State Hospital for 21 years. Marlene married Clinton C. Zercher at Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka on September 4, 1965. He survives. She is also survived by her daughter, Christine (Kim) Sawatzky of Topeka, grandchildren, Jesse (Carrie) Zercher, Earl "Denny" (Elizabeth)Pinkston III, Courtney (Matt) Bradley, and Steven Sawatzky, and 5 great grandchildren, Autumn, Alexus, Diamond, James, and Cheyenne. She was predeceased by a grandson Christopher Pinkston. Marlene will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
