Raul Ramos, known to his grandchildren as Papa Ramos and was born on October 21, 1932 and passed into his Eternal Home on May 18, 2014. Being born into a large family, he grew in the love of his many brothers and sisters. This love would sustain them through the difficulties of living in the depression era; their first house being a box car that was fashioned into a home. They made due as most families, he and his siblings would shine shoes, sell newspapers/magazines, danced on the street corner and as they grew older, worked in various jobs to help support the family. This taught them about hard work and being frugal, supplying their own labor to build a bathroom and shower in a later home. Their struggles only increased their love and support that they would draw from often. These limitations did not stop them from being involved in sports, such as teaching themselves how to play tennis. Raul was even part of an all Hispanic basketball team. His close family was part of a larger tight knit Mexican Community in Topeka like others you would find in Kansas during this time whose strong bonds still exist today. He would eventually meet his wife Rachel at one of the widely known Fiestas in Chanute. They were married in her home town of Independence May 10, 1958. In their early years, he settled on a career and with his wifeaPMs support he was able to complete his degree in Mechanical Engineering. They moved from Bartlesville Oklahoma, Kansas City, and finally settling in Omaha, Nebraska to raise their children. Later in life he moved to Texas and married his current spouse Patricia Gibbs. While living in East Texas dad would become involved in many volunteer activities after retiring. This was all a part of his generous heart. Into his golden years he was diagnosed with Dementia which he faced with courage and grace. He trusted in his Savior and Redeemer Jesus to see him through this trial. Raul Sr. is survived by his wife Patricia Gibbs, children Rita Bailey and her husband Brad, Richard Ramos, Raul Ramos, Jr., Ron Ramos and his wife Cindy, grandchildren Carmen Hillhouse, Erin Ramos, Emily Ramos and siblings Ben Ramos, Vera Sturm, Irene Escobar, Mari Arellano and Vickie White. Raul is predeceased by his parents Santiago and Delfina Ramos and siblings Sally Escabar, Salvador Ramos and Jim Ramos. His step daughter, Becky Pierson shares some following thoughts. We, Becky, Gary, and Debby, PataPMs kids, her grand kids and great grand kids were so blessed when Raul came into our lives. We all feel he is undoubtedly the kindest, most gentle, loving man ever. He loved us unconditionally - always. He was so good to our mother and for that we are so grateful and so very blessed. He always brought so much joy to our visits when we were in their home. We all loved him with all our hearts. We know heaven became a more beautiful place when our sweet Raul entered his eternal home. Thank you to Ron, Raul Jr., Rita, Rick and their families for sharing their precious dad with us. We loved him and will miss him greatly. The family will receive friends at a visitation Friday, May 23, 2014 from 7-9:00 PM at Allen Family Funeral Options. A graveside service will be held to honor Raul at the Dallas Ft.
