Vincent De Paul Schmidtlein, 87 of Topeka, died January 30, 2014 at The House at Midland Care. He was born on January 14, 1927 in Topeka, the son of Andrew and Rose (Stadler) Schmidtlein. He served in the United States Navy from 1944 to 1946 and retired as an electrical supervisor for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad Company where he worked for 42 years. He worked for and owned Schmidtlein Electric. Vincent was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Perpetual Adoration Society at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and he served on the board at Mount Calvary Cemetery. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1650 and the Santa Fe Oldtimers Club. He married Frieda Boos on August 19, 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She survives. Other survivors include his children, James (Deborah) Schmidtlein, Susanne (Larry) Heller, Mary Dee (Brad) Sedlacek, and Steven Schmidtlein, one brother Bernard John Schmidtlein, all of Topeka, 17 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers Andrew John Schmidtlein and Gregory Paul Schmidtlein. Vincent will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. on Monday, February 3, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church with burial following in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
