Carrol Paul Umscheid, 79, of Topeka, died January 27, 2014 at his home. He was born in Flush, Kansas on March 12, 1934 the son of Anthony Charles and Elsie E. (Cochran) Umscheid. He graduated from Flush High School in 1954. He joined the U.S. Air Force in Enid, Oklahoma in July 1954 stationed at Vance Air Force Base. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. Carrol married Margaret Helget on July 20, 1955 in Flush, Kansas, and moved to Topeka in April of 1958 where he worked at Umscheid Auto Repair for 32 years prior to his retirement. He is survived by his wife Margaret of 58 years, their daughter, Rose Cody of Fayetteville, AR, sons, Dale of Tecumseh, Brian of Topeka and grandsons, Chad Cody and Elijah Umscheid. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. He will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 604.
