Kenneth Dean Butler, 83, of Topeka, died December 28, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Oak Hill, Kansas on September 9, 1930 the son of Doss Milton and Isabelle (Payne) Butler. Kenneth graduated from Chapman High School. Kenneth worked as a warehouseman for the Fleming Company for 35 years, retiring in 1992. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received the Bronze Star. He later served in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the American Legion Capitol Post #1 and Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, playing the guitar, country music, going to the casino, and was an avid sports fan, especially basketball and football. Kenneth married Ramona June North on December 24, 1955 in Clifton, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter Kathy (Joe) Votaw, two sons, Brad and Dave Butler, all of Topeka, grandchildren, Staci (Ryan) Ogle, Brent Ketter, Andy Butler, Brady Butler, and Kristi (Shane) Davin, great-grandchildren, Jessica, Austin, Ellery, Hailey, and Landon, a sister Eunice Gingrich of Topeka, and a brother Johnny Butler of Mesa, Arizona. Kenneth was preceded in death by four brothers: Raymond, Marvin, Boyd, and Bernard, and his parents. Kenneth was cremated. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 3, 2014 at the funeral home. Graveside inurnment services will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Sherman Cemetery, five miles north of Morganville, Kansas.
