Vincent Tetuan, Jr. 78 of Topeka died Wednesday, December 25, 2013 at his home. He was born February 1, 1935 in Topeka one of twelve children to Bicente and Concepcion (Monasterio) Tetuan, Sr. Vincent held numerous positions at KNI from 1961 until his retirement in 1992. He was part owner of The Lucky Five Restaurant. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and the Musician's Union. He volunteered playing his saxophone at LULAC and at the Mexican Fiesta for many years. He loved playing the saxophone, he was "The best in the Midwest" He played in several bands, The Clefs, The Nocturnes, Harold Hunter and the Swinging Naturals, the KNI Band, Uncle Sam Country Band, the Mariachi's of Topeka and Chito and His Latiners Vincent was a KU fan and a K-State football fan while his cousin was playing for the Wildcats. He enjoyed gardening and loved to paint helping anyone in need of painting their home. Vincent devoted his life to helping others, especially those with disabilities keeping in contact with many of the residents at KNI and was a great mentor of music to his grandchildren. Vincent married Mary Helen Tavares on January 25, 1964 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Roberto (Alicia) Tetuan of Topeka, Vincent "Vino" (Angel) Tetuan III of Kansas City, MO, Danny (Milagros) Tetuan of Merriam, KS, Lisha Tetuan (Christopher Haze) and Gina (Victor M.) Rodriguez all of Topeka along with fifteen grandchildren, Mark, Ashley, Jeremy, Michael, Rico, Amanda, Emilio, Sierra, Juan, Esteban, Gabriel, Dominic, Vincent IV, Lourdes, Victoria and one great grandchild on the way. Two sisters, Augustina Tetuan (Larry Moran), Genevieve (Modesto) Vasquez and a brother John Tetuan also survive. He was preceded in death by eight siblings. He will lie in state and the family will receive friends after 4:00 P.M. Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
