Katherine Ortiz Esquibel, 87, of Topeka, died November 27, 2013 at her home. She was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 30, 1926 the daughter of Gabriel R. and Adelaida (Lopez) Ortiz. Katherine retired from Mize Houser Mulligan & Cline where she was a Payroll Clerk. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and an avid KU Jayhawk fan. Katherine loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren which were the love of her life. She married Seledonio "Sal" Esquibel at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church on November 9, 1946. He survives of the home. They have four children, Monica (Martin Paz) Esquibel, Steve (Deborah) Esquibel, Patty (Brian Hendrix) Kennedy, and Tom (Susie) Esquibel all of Topeka, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Salazar of Topeka, and five brothers, Joe (Mayo) Ortiz of Topeka, Rito Ortiz of San Antonio, TX, Blas Ortiz of Delia, KS, Thomas Ortiz of Independence, MO, and Peter Ortiz of Topeka. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Antonio Ortiz and a sister, Lucy Dominguez. She will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday, December 5th, after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 6th, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
