Avon Monroe "Mac" McNeece, 94 of Topeka, died Sunday, September 15, 2013 at Plaza West Regional Health Center. Mac was born April 4, 1919 in Manchester, IL the son of George and Myrtle (Hewitt) McNeece He graduated from Manchester High School and went to Bakers School in Chicago, IL. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WW II. Mac was a baker for the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center and was later a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. Mac was a member of the VFW and Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed spending time with his grandson, helping neighbors and friends, fishing, camping, traveling and baking. He married Lucille L. Young on June 14, 1946 in Kansas City, MO. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Donna VanHole of Stillwater, OK and Jim McNeece and his wife Linda and a grandson, Jordan McNeece all of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Thomas Manion McNeece, Lennie Pearl McNeece, Malcomb Patterson McNeece, William Howard McNeece, Omar McNeece, Lee Anderson McNeece, Mamie Lucille McNeece, Clarence Clayton McNeece and Lloyd Laverne McNeece. Mac will lie in state on Wednesday at Mt. Hope Mausoleum Chapel from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends and a service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will be in the Mt. Hope Mausoleum where military honors will be provided.
