Donald Lee Bloomquist

April 12, 1957 — November 21, 2012

Donald Lee (Sarge) Bloomquist Born April 12, 1957, Don Bloomquist was taken into the arms of God on November 21, 2012. After graduating from Shawnee Heights High School in 1975, Don entered active duty with the US ARMY including service in Germany and Fort Riley. He retired after 20 years of distinguished service from the Kansas Army National Guard. Until his death, Don was employed as an equipment mechanic at the Kansas Department of Transportation. Don loved repairing and maintaining all sorts of things, in his military life, his professional life and in his spare time as a "gentleman farmer". He loved grilling and eating good food and sharing time with friends, co-workers and family. If someone needed something fixed or put together, he was always willing to lend a hand. He was the hay crew "top boss" at the Dancing Star Ranch, Tecumseh, KS for 12 years. We can all be assured that God?s equipment will be well maintained and that all of the hay fields in heaven will be put up in hay bales every year! Don was an organ donor so that others could have a better chance at living fuller lives. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Louis Bloomquist, and mother, Wilma Evelyn Bloomquist. He is survived by his twin sister, Donna Jean (Bloomquist) North of Topeka, a nephew, Robert Charles North, and a sister Martha Bloomquist Scranton (husband Joe Scranton) of Tecumseh, Kansas. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at 11:30 AM at the Museum of the Kansas National Guard, 6700 S. Topeka Boulevard, Topeka, KS. A lunch reception will be held at the Museum after the service. Memorial contributions can be made on Don?s behalf to the Museum of the Kansas National Guard.
