Arthur Paul "Art" Dennis, 85, of Topeka, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Manor Care. He was born July 27, 1927 in Topeka the son of William and Marie (Ludwig) Dennis. Art served his country in the Merchant Marines and then the U.S. Air Force. He was a truck driver for over 45 years working the last 17 of those years for UPS until his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he was a cantor, a member of the Cursillo, coached grade school sports and helped start the Sacred Heart Activities Club to help raise money for the school and their sports activities. Art was an umpire for Babe Ruth Baseball and was a Sr. Olympics Bowler. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, traveling and hunting but he enjoyed most of all his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. Art married Elizabeth "Liz" Ingenthron on July 20, 1946 at the Base Chapel in Rantoul, IL. She survives. He is also survived by his five children and their spouses, Pamela Morse, (Tom), Kirby Dennis, (Mary Jane), Steven "Doug" Dennis, (Brenda), Tina Gartner (Bill) all of Topeka and Lisa Bishop, (John) of Highlands Ranch, CO, a brother, Peter Dennis, (Rita) of Colorado Springs, CO. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Irene Minihan, William Dennis, Theodore Dennis and Gertrude Mitchell. Fourteen grandchildren survive, Tama, Ryan, Darcy, Ben, Lindsay, Heath, Erin, Erica, Kelly, Jaime, Kim, Steven, Kate, Billy and fourteen great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two great grandchildren, Mary Dennis and Hunter Fawl. Art will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 NE Freeman Ave., where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wenesday at the church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
