Jacob Joseph Burghart, 94, of Topeka, passed away on October 25, 2012 at Midland Hospice House. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on July 26, 1918 the son of George and Amelia (Prediger) Burghart. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country in World War II. Jacob was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Church and American Legion Capitol Post #1. He worked at John Morrell & Company for several years. He then worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 26 years from where he retired. Jacob married Susanna Puhl on August 6, 1940 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on February 21, 1995. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Carol Sue Dahlberg and a grandson, John C. Burghart, and his siblings, Godfrey, George, John, Rose, Molly, Elizabeth, Barbara and Helen. He is survived by his children, Geralyn, John, Jacob and George, a sister, Mary Ann Schmidt, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Jacob will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday, October 29th after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the rosary until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Mater Dei Assumption Church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
