Chemistry class at Cleveland High School in 1941 was the setting for the start of a lifelong romance. Virginia Ann Austin and Harold Michael Telthorst were lab partners then, and became life partners after June 18, 1947, their wedding day. While Harold went to England during the war as a tail gunner on a B-17, Virginia attended Harris Teachers? College, completing her degree in education in 1947. Harold came home and went to the Missouri School of Mines on the GI Bill, graduating with a degree in civil engineering in 1949. Virginia taught school. Both enjoyed their careers, though Virginia?s was shortened by the arrival of 4 chiidren over the years: Amy (Fred Weisser), Lisa (Marshall Bird), Robert (Margaret) and Thomas (Fonda). From South City to Omaha, Kansas City, Chesterfield and Topeka, Ks. They all went for Harold?s career. Harold retired in Topeka in 1992 at their beloved house on the lake. He passed on April 8, 2004 at age 79; Virginia on Sept. 26, 2012 at age 87. She?ll be forever loved and missed by her grandchildren: Rebecca Weisser, Jessica Shmiemeier (Kevin), Eric Weisser, Michael and Anna Telthorst; Devin and Hunter Adams, and Patricia and Andrew Telthorst. A memorial mass will be held in Topeka at Christ the King Church, on Friday, Oct. 5, at 10:00 am. Committal on Monday, October 8, 2012, 10:45 am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
