Maria S. Romero

Maria S. Romero, 97, of Topeka, died April 22, 2013 at Lexington Park Care Center. She was born on December 14, 1915 in LaBarca, Jalisco, Mexico, the daughter of Angel and Dominga (Godinez) Segura. Maria worked in the produce department of Seymour Foods. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. She married Antonio Romero in Topeka, Kansas in 1951. He preceded her in death on October 29, 1978. She was also preceded in death by a son Patricio Romero, a step-daughter, Genevieve Neal, her brother John Segura and her sister, Mercedes Reyes. Maria is survived by her children, Mary G. Alva of Topeka, Guillermo and Angelina Romero Peart of Springfield, MA, Rosa R. Gutierrez of Lawrence, Aurelio Loza and Emilio Nunez of Mexico, and Cruz Romero of Kansas City, MO, step children; Virginia Romero, Salvador Romero, Lucille Walker, Antonio Romero Jr. and Robert Romero, seventeen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Maria will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
