Amailia "Mollie" Padilla

Amailia "Mollie" Padilla, 83, of Topeka, died June 20, 2013 at the House at Midland Care. She was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 17, 1930 the daughter of Jesus and Ramona (Gomez) Del Hierro. Mollie was a Dietary Supervisor for 30 years retiring in 1995 from the Presbyterian Manor where she was a great mentor to her younger co-workers helping them learn responsibility, accountability and strong work ethics. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Mollie was an avid KU Basketball fan. She enjoyed watching the KC Chiefs and was a great cook. Mollie married Frank L. Padilla, Sr. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on September 22, 1949. They shared over 63 years together. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters: Helen Marie Padilla in infancy and Patty Padilla-Quinley along with two brothers, Leopold and Leo Del Hierro. She is survived by her children, Anita (Bill) Bywater of E. Greenbush, NY, Richard (Sue) Padilla, Frank (Dee) Padilla, Jr. and Joe Padilla all of Topeka, KS, her siblings Rosemary (Ascension) Hernandez of Shawnee, KS, Tommy (Rainnell) Del Hierro of Jackson, GA, Charlie (Rose) Del Hierro of Port Hueneme, CA and Monica Wampole of Redlands, CA. Ten grandchildren: Angel, Billy, Bryan, Rob, Ryan, Melissa, Andrew, Rebekah, Ty and Mallory and eleven great-grandchildren also survive. Mollie was a kind, warm, loving woman that was the heart and soul of the Padilla family. Mollie will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Midland Care Hospice or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, Kansas 66603.
