LeRoy Muckenthaler, 70, of Topeka, died June 6, 2013 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. He was born in Paxico, Kansas on October 5, 1942 the son of Paul and Bernadine (Seeling) Muckenthaler. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. LeRoy was a Captain with the Topeka Fire Department and retired in 1997 with over 30 years of service. He enjoyed playing and watching tennis, the KC Royals, watching softball, and vegetable gardening. He was a caregiver for the parents and others and was a volunteer for the Independent Living Center and the Topeka Rescue Mission. He is survived by two brothers, Merwyn (Sue) Muckenthaler of Topeka, Alvin (Kay) Muckenthaler of Kansas City North, a foster son, Mark (Aimee) Orender of Lee?s Summit, MO, three grandchildren, Tyler, Alyssa, and Evan, two nieces, six nephews and many great nieces and nephews. LeRoy will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 2:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends until 4:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. Monday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Last Alarm Ceremony will be conducted by the Topeka Firefighters. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery where military honors will be conducted.
