Alexis Diane Salmon

July 11, 1997 — June 5, 2013

Alexis "Lexie" Diane Salmon, 15, of Topeka, grew her wings and flew to the heavens above on June 5, 2013 while in the loving arms of her family at Children?s Mercy Hospital. Lexie was born in Topeka, KS on July 11, 1997 the daughter of Kyle and Haley Diane (Morgan) Salmon. She just completed her sophomore year at Shawnee Heights High School. Lexie had a very personal relationship with God. She enjoyed texting and snap chatting, was a self-proclaimed queen of selfies, was artistic and loved fashion. She was very athletic and loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and her farm animals. Lexie had participated in many sports like cross country and gymnastics and most of all she was an avid softball player who loved nothing more than taking the field. She enjoyed planting flowers and collecting sock monkeys. Lexie was a social butterfly who loved life and surrounding herself with family and friends. She had a contagious smile and laughter and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Her special bond she shared with her "Sissy" will be forever cherished. Lexie truly was a ray of sunshine. She is survived by her parents, Kyle and Haley Salmon and her sister Alley Salmon, all of the home. Other survivors include maternal grandparents, Jack and Candy Morgan of Tecumseh, paternal grandparents, Robin Shingleton-Heuer and Rick Heuer of Tonganoxie, her biological grandfather, Ronald (Kathleen) Salmon of Alaska, her great grandparents, Dorothy Morgan of Tecumseh and Roy Salmon of Tonganoxie. Her aunts and uncles, Jackie and Kevin VandeVelde, Ryan and Tina Morgan, Jeff and Heather Salmon, Danny Salmon, Tom and Tara Quirk-Norlin, Charlene Pike-Higgins along with many special cousins and extended family also survive. Lexie will lie in state Tuesday at Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, 3501 SW Wanamaker, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 8:00 pm. A celebration of her life will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday at the church. Cremation is planned following her services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Lexie?s memory to Children?s Mercy Hospital for a future health center or the preservation of the original chapel or to Helping Hands Humane Society, and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.brennamathenafh.com. P.S. Lexie?s family wants EVERYONE who feels ANY CONNECTION to Lexie or to her story to feel invited. The family would prefer that you dress casually as they will be wearing their "Her Fight is Our Fight" t-shirts and doing it up Lexie style.
