Harriett A. Stafford, 86, of Topeka, died June 1, 2013 at Midland Hospice House. She was born in Topeka, Kansas on January 7, 1927 the daughter of Peter and Alice (Barrett) Miller. Harriett graduated from Topeka High School. She worked for Luce Press Clippings, Pelletiers and then for State Fire Marshalls Office where she worked in the Arson Division. She loved humor, riding motorcycles, flying, cooking, family occasions, and loved animals. She was a KISS fan and was a ballerina in her youth. Harriett was a former member of the Eastern Star. She married Claude E. "Doc" Stafford on October 18, 1947 in Rossville, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 2005. Harriett is survived by a daughter, Vicki Stafford-Looka (Lorin) of Topeka, a son Terry Stafford (Sheryl) of Topeka, 2 grandchildren, Natalie and Hilarie Stafford , and 5 great-grandchildren, Clayton, Evan, Nathan, Alan, and Halie. She was also survived by a brother, Robert Peter Miller of Topeka and was preceded in death by six siblings. Harriett will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
