Agnes Vehige

Agnes Vehige, 86, of Topeka, KS, died Friday, April 26, 2013 at St Francis Hospital. She was born June 24, 1926 in Rooks, KS the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Delaney) Griebel. Agnes was a Registered Nurse working at Presbyterian Manor and Brewster Place along with other area nursing facilities. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and volunteered for over 40 years at Birthright. Agnes married August Joseph (A.J.) Vehige on February 14, 1950 in Stockton, KS. She was a great caregiver to her husband in the last years of his life. He preceded her in death on June 12, 2002. She is survived by her children, William Vehige of Garden City, Joseph Vehige and Gregory Vehige both of Topeka, August James Vehige of Wichita, Daniel Vehige of Reading, Andrew Vehige of Colorado Springs, Erma Jean Cain of San Antonio, TX, Mary Kennedy of Topeka and a brother, Paul Griebel of Hays. Twenty grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive. She will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
