Paul C. McDermed Jr., 97, of Topeka, died July 9, 2012 at the Colmery-o?Neil VA Medical Center surrounded by his family. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on November 5, 1914 the son of Paul C. and Hazel (Kane) McDermed. Paul was a 1933 graduate of Meriden High School. He served in the US. Army, and retired as a Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force on July 31, 1967. During his military career he served in Germany, Korea, Japan and Spain. After his retirement Paul worked as a salesman for the Palace Clothing Company and retired from the Merchant?s Bank. Paul has lived in Topeka since 1968 coming from Wichita. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #534, American Legion Post #400 and the Air Force Sergeant?s Association. He married Mary Hurst in Wichita, Kansas on October 29, 1960. She survives. He is also survived by one daughter, Judi Coogan of Houston, Texas, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Gwen Drews in November of 2009. Paul will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish and Knights of Columbus Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
