Edmund Walter Hudspeth, 97, died June 16th, 2012 at Brewster Health Center in Topeka. He was born on October 4, 1914 in Junction City, Kansas, to Walter Augusta and Anna Gertrude (Henry) Hudspeth. Edmund graduated from St. Xavier Catholic High School in Junction City. In 1937, Ed enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve and served as a Seaman Second Class until he was honorably discharged in 1940. On February 4, 1939 Edmund married Clara Bramlage in Junction City where they lived. They had a daughter, Christie Lee Simmons who preceded them in death in 1983. Clara preceded him in death in 1993. On May 31, 1995, Ed married TreAlice Sable. She preceded him in death in 2007. Ed was a mail carrier for the United States Post Office for 35 years until he retired in 1977. He was a parishioner of Mater Dei Holy Name Parish, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks, and Eagles organizations. He had many interests but especially enjoyed traveling, taking photographs on his trips, fishing, and woodworking. In his later years, he loved telling stories about his childhood years, his years carrying mail, and his travels. Ed is survived by a stepson, Edwin E. Sable (Mary Ellen) of Topeka, a step grandson, and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his four siblings, Mary Elizabeth May, Helen Louise Russell, John Hudspeth, and Paul Hudspeth. Mr. Hudspeth will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 20th, at 10:00 a.m. at Mater Dei Holy Name Catholic Church.
