Rita May Stattelman

Rita May Stattelman, 82, of Topeka, died April 17, 2013 at Stormont-Vail Hospital. She was born in New Albin, Iowa on March 30, 1931 the daughter of James and Doris (May) Spinner. Rita was a homemaker and dedicated her life to caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Altar Guild at the church. Rita enjoyed reading, flower and fruit gardening, and traveling. She married Robert G. Stattelman in Topeka, Kansas on January 20, 1968. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2000. Survivors include a son, Ralph Allen Hertzfeldt Jr. of Topeka and seven daughters, Gene Godwin of Broadus, TX, Vickie Settle of Horton, KS, Sue (Ronnie) Taylor of Lyndon, Ks, Dori Slusser of Topeka, Peggy (Tommy) Crump of Burlingame, Bobbie Jo (Greg) Wintle of Topeka and Moni Lou (Jim) Longstaff of Burlingame, two brothers, Tim Spinner of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Robert "Bob" Spinner of Topeka and a sister, June Pottratz of Indianapolis, Indiana. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Rita will lie in state at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2700 SE Virginia Avenue, on Monday after 4:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church with interment following in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
