Shirley Ann Fitzgibbons

Shirley Ann Fitzgibbons, 71, of Topeka, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the House at Midland Care. She was born April 5, 1942 in Topeka, the daughter of Sylvester and Lillian (Stein) Desch. Shirley was a 1960 graduate of Hayden High School and attended Washburn University. She was the first female detective on the Shawnee County Sheriff?s Department retiring after 30 years of service. She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She liked to play bridge but most of all she loved attending her grandchildren?s activities and spending time with them. Shirley is survived by her children, Christine Fitzgibbons of Sarasota, FL, Mark Fitzgibbons of Topeka, Julie Medlicott and her husband John of Henderson, NV and Scott Fitzgibbons and his wife Jill of Topeka. She is also survived by her sisters, Delores Enns of AZ, Marilyn Dechand of Topeka, Rose Dechand of Lawrence and Sue Carney of Topeka. Her grandchildren, Kaylee Fitzgibbons, Coby Fitzgibbons, Shannon Donohue, Devin Donohue, Jaci Fitzgibbons and Brynn Fitzgibbons also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers Steve and Kenny Desch. Shirley was an inspiration to her family and friends. She was loved by all and will be forever missed. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Shirley?s memory to Midland Hospice Care sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
