Frances Herrera, 89, of Topeka, passed away January 3, 2012 at Stormont-Vail Health Care. She was born September 17, 1922 in Topeka the daughter of Angel and Juanita (Cisneros) Sanchez. Frances worked for twelve years at Seymour Foods in Topeka before beginning a twenty-two year career at Stormont-Vail Health Care. She retired as a supervisor in the housekeeping department at the hospital. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed going to the casino. Frances proudly volunteered to help organize the "Bottoms" reunions. Frances was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she dedicated many hours in prayer in the Adoration Chapel. She was married to Gilbert A. Herrera, Sr. in January of 1952 in Topeka. Survivors include her husband, Gilbert A. Herrera, Sr., three daughters, Marie "Trina" Kolean of Topeka, Rosemary Herrera of Puyallup, WA and Virginia Wathen of Tulsa, OK, two sons, Gilbert "Gil"Herrera, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Topeka and Christopher "Chris" Herrera and his wife Jeni of Topeka, two brothers, John Sanchez of Chicago, IL and Juventino Sanchez of Topeka, daughter-in-law Yvonne Herrera of Topeka. Twenty-one grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren also survive. A son Bernard "Bernie" Herrera preceded her in death on March 31, 2011. Her brothers, Jake Sanchez and Joe Sanchez and a sister Benina Robledo also preceded her in death. Frances will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. where a rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
