George John Weaver

Ret. MSgt. George John Weaver, 84, of Topeka, passed away December 24, 2011 at his home. He was born June 24, 1927 in Bridgeport, CT the son of John George and Elizabeth (Szarka) Weaver. George graduated from Hill House High School in 1945. He received a bachelor?s degree in Social Work and Sociology from Washburn University in 1980. He served in the United States Navy from April 15, 1945 receiving a discharge in 1946. He then served in the United States Air Force from November 1947 until he retired February 28, 1974. George was stationed at several different locations during his career. George was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, the Fun Club at Church and the United States Air Force Sergeants Association. He was married to Katharine Therese O?Neil on April 23, 1951 in New Haven, CT. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2007. A son Daniel J. Weaver also preceded him in death in 1962. Survivors include four sons, Thomas G. Weaver of Kansas City, MO, Andrew B. Weaver of Topeka, Carl J. Weaver (Linda) of Merriam, James G. Weaver (Kathleen) of Topeka and a sister Barbara A. Thaisz of Branford, CT. Ten grandchildren also survive. George will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
