Leona Berniece Schoenfeldt

Leona Berniece Schoenfeldt, 86, of Topeka, died May 20, 2012 at Midland Hospice House. She was born in Topeka, Kansas on September 26, 1925 the daughter of Ignatius and Mary (Gabel) Haberkorn. Leona worked for Jordan Bakery, Menninger Foundation and for Hall Lithograph prior to her retirement. She was an animal lover and enjoyed gardening. Leona will be most remembered as a loving mother who devoted her life to her daughter, Debbie. She graduated from St. Joseph Grade School and was a member of St. Joseph Church. Leona married George Schoenfeldt at St. Joseph Church on June 30, 1952. He died on December 6, 1978. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie of the home, a brother Robert (Peggy) Haberkorn, two sisters, Odelia "Dee" Mick and Louise Schreiber, a Brother-In-Law Orlin Broxterman, and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Daniel, Mary and Alvena Haberkorn, Kathryn Dluhy and Elizabeth "Betty" Broxterman. Leona will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
