Ruth Lefern Oliver, 91, of Topeka, formerly of Garden City, died May 13, 2012 at Midland Hospice Care. She was born July 27, 1920 in Rural Stanton County, KS, the daughter of Morgan Theopolus and Jenny May (Johnson) Bullock. Ruth grew up on a farm in Rural Stanton County and graduated from Ulysses High School in 1938 the only one of her siblings to attend high school. She married Hersel T. Oliver on June 16, 1940 in Garden City. He preceded her in death on September 9, 1981. She continued to work the 320 acre farm that they bought in 1941. During her life she not only worked very hard on the farm but also taught Bible School for over 20 years at both Pleasant Prairie Church in Satanta, KS and First Assembly of God in Garden City. She was area manager of Studio Girl Cosmetics, a consultant for Ovation and Holiday Magic Cosmetics and a Sales Manager for Nikkin Wellness. She attended Light of the World Christian Center after coming to Topeka in 2005. She loved the Lord and walked with him for many blessed years. She says that God has walked her past deaths door many times and has given her a miraculous testimony each time. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, Lloyd, Walter and Lester Bullock, a sister, Alice Chambers and her daughter, Margie Goetz who passed on March 15, 2012. She is survived by a brother, Albert Bullock of Texas, three daughters, Alberta (Carleton) Kleitz of Kansas City, KS, Doris (James) Arwine of Garden City and Norma Turley of Topeka. Eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. Ruth will lie in state after 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 6:30 p.m. A funeral service will follow in Garden City with burial in Valley View Cemetery at a later date.
