Alejandro T. Marquez, 90, of Topeka, died April 16, 2012 at Midland Hospice Care. Alex was born February 21, 1922 in Mexico, D.F. the son of Elpidio and Margerita (Tellez) Marquez. He married Eva Alcala on June 4, 1944 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2000. Alex was a Coach Carpenter at AT & SF Railroad retiring after 37 years on March 1, 1982. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and LULAC. Survivors include his children, Michael Marquez and his wife Patti of Olathe, Becky Hernandez and her husband Joe of Topeka, Eddie Marquez and his wife Maricarmen of Prairie Village, Angela Marquez and her husband Aaron of Colorado Springs, Elizabeth Romero and her husband Joe of Topeka, and Adela Vargas and her husband Pio of Topeka. He is also survived by three brothers, Miguel Marquez of Yuma, AZ, Tomas Marquez of Mexico and Martin Marquez of Romeoville, IL, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and a great great-granddaughter also survive. Alex was proud to welcome four newly born babies to his family in this past year. Alex will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where there will be a Parish Vigil Service starting at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Cremation will follow. Private inurnment will be Saturday at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
