Leo J. Haefner, 77, of Topeka, died April 13, 2012 at Midland Hospice Care. He was born in Topeka, KS on November 10, 1934, the son of Matthew and Margaret (Schiffelbein) Haefner. Leo served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Leo graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School, attended Hayden High School and then began working for the AT & SF Railroad retiring as a passenger carmen. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus Council #2608 and the Carmen Union. Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, bird watching and the outdoors. He married Lorine Wimer in September of 1985 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She survives. He is also survived by his brother, Edward and his wife Thelma Haefner and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Haefner all of Topeka. Nine nieces and nephews, numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews also survive. Leo was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Haefner. Leo will lie in state after 4:00 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church where the family will receive friends until 8:00 p.m. A Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Parish Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
