Adam James "Jim" Engroff, 78, of Topeka, died March 25, 2012 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on February 11, 1934, the son of Adam John and Marcella B. (Mader) Engroff. Jim served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany. He played American Legion Baseball. He attended St. John?s Seminary for 3 years and was a 1952 graduate of Hayden High School. He and his brother Jay owned and operated, Engroff Food Basket and later Engroff Thriftway, Engroff Catering and Big Top Popcorn. He was also a Director of Sales and Marketing for the Kansas Lottery prior to his retirement. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Church where he was an active volunteer in many capacities. Jim was a founding member of the Annual Germanfest and worked funeral dinners at the church. He was a founding member of the Annual Hayden Pace Auction. Jim was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #2608 and the James W. Gibbons Assembly of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He loved to cook and enjoyed making German Sausage with his brothers. Jim was an avid K-State and Hayden High School sports fan. Jim married Judith K Marks on August 22, 1964 in Valley Falls, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by his children; Laurie (Brian) Buhler of Topeka, Annette R. Engroff of Topeka, Mary Lynn Engroff of Delray Beach, Fla., Julie Engroff of Orlando, Fla., Adam James (Elizabeth) Engroff III of Boise, Idaho. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Mandi Buhler, Allie White, Kelsey White, Skylor Buhler, Vincent Amato, Austin Engroff and Brody Engroff. He has two sisters, Maureen Steinbock and Sylvia Northrup, and three brothers, Dean Engroff, Jay Engroff and Pete Domme . Jim was preceded in death by a grandson, Adam James "A.J." Engroff IV on February 8, 2001 and by a sister, Marcella Ridgway on February 16, 2005. Jim will lie in state at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 NE Freeman, on Wednesday after 4:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. and a Third and Fourth Degree Rosary and Chalice Ceremony will be at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
