Martha E. Gies

Martha E. Gies, 103 of Topeka, passed away December 7, 2011 at a local nursing home. She was born October 7, 1908 in Detroit, MI the daughter of Emil and Lisetta (Krapp) Gies. Martha was a secretary at Shrine of the Little Flower Catholic Church in Royal Oak, MI. She later worked for the United States Army at Ft. Sam Houston for twenty years before she retired. Martha was an alumnus of St. Joseph Academy in Adrian, MI. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Emil C. and Eugene R. Gies. Martha is survived by five nieces and nephews. She will lie in state from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at Mater Dei?s Holy Name Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00. Interment will be held on Tuesday at the Holy Sepulcher Cemetery in Detroit, MI where William Sullivan & Sons F.H. will be in charge.
