James E. Maus, 55, of Topeka died October 21, 2011 at his home. James was born February 23, 1956 in Topeka the son of John and Catherine (Leonard) Maus who preceded him in death. He attended Holy Name School and graduated from Hayden High School in 1974. He was a Master Electrician working for numerous contractors throughout Topeka. He retired in 2010 from I.B.E.W. Local #226 as the acting Electrical Apprenticeship Training Director. James was a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church, I.B.E.W. Local #226, the Knights of Columbus Council #534 and the N.R.A. He enjoyed his grandkids, golfing, fishing, bargain hunting and was an avid fan of K.U. Basketball. He married Joyce Rae Clark on June 9, 1985 in Topeka. She preceded him in death May 31, 2009. Survivors include a step-son, Lance Freeman and his wife Julie of Ozark, MO, a step-daughter Jennifer Wilson and her husband Brent of Tulsa, OK, a sister Christine Phelon and her husband Mark of Topeka. Four grandchildren, Emily, Cambell, Clay, Levi and a nephew, Greg also survive. James will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will greet friends from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
