Jesse H. Alonzo, 81, of Topeka, died September 6, 2011 at Manor Care Nursing Home. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 13, 1930 the son of Valentin and Tomasa (Hernandez) Alonzo. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Jesse worked for the AT&SF Railway Company for 47 years retiring on August 5, 1991 from the Store House. Jesse was an avid New York Yankees fan, and loved to travel to Chicago and Montreal, Canada by train. He always loved a good meal and had to finish it with dessert. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Survivors include two brothers, Julian T. Alonzo and his wife Rosemary, John H. Alonzo and his wife Mary, a sister, Josephine Cuevas, a sister-in-law, Loretta Alonzo all of Topeka and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Martin Alonzo and two sisters, Lupe Martinez and Cruz Carreon. Jesse will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Cremation will follow. Inurnment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
