Virgil H. Rodecap

Virgil H. Rodecap, 84, of Topeka, passed away August 21, 2011 at Midland Hospice. He was born October 3, 1926 in Topeka the son of Adam Henry and Effie Lela (Phillips) Rodecap. He graduated from Meriden High School with the class of 1944. While he was in high school he played basketball. Virgil was a crane operator for the Santa Fe Railway Co. retiring October 5, 1987 after thirty-six years of service. He enjoyed sewing, rug making, woodworking, repairing lawn mowers and doing metal work. Virgil played on the Santa Fe basketball team. Virgil was a charter member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He married M. Jeannine Wege on August 24, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Ronald (Faye) Rodecap of Carbondale, Douglas (Joanne) Rodecap of Topeka and Robert (Laura) Rodecap of Hudson Oaks, TX and one daughter Jeanne (Gary) Kahle of Topeka. Eight grandchildren, three step grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren also survive. A half-sister Vera Jewell and one step great grandson preceded him in death. Virgil will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A parish vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2700 SE Virginia. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made for masses or to be used for a memorial for Virgil to be designated by the family at a later date.
