Mass of Christian Burial for Paul G. Perez, 65, of Lufkin, TX will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Francis O’Dowd officiating. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with a rosary prayed at 7:00 p.m.
A visitation will also be held Monday, July 18, 2011 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka with graveside services at 2:30 p.m. in the Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Perez was born January 20, 1946 in Topeka to the late Marina (Ramirez) and Cecilio Perez and died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in Lufkin, TX. He had resided in Lufkin for 18 years.
Mr. Perez was a Captain in the U.S. Army, Military Intelligence division. He served three years active duty, three years reserve duty, and was awarded the Bronze Star. Mr. Perez earned a BA in 1968 from the University of Kansas and a JD in 1974 from Washburn University School of Law.
Mr. Perez worked as a corporate attorney for 37 years, with John Morrell & Co., Chicago, IL, Montgomery Ward & Co., Dallas, TX, Cameron Iron Works, Houston, TX, Cooper Industries, Houston, TX, and Lufkin Industries, Inc., Lufkin, TX for the past 18 years, beginning July 1, 1993.
Mr. Perez was a board member at Memorial Health Systems of East Texas, former trustee of Angelina Community College, former President of the board of trustees at Stubblefield Learning Center, board member of the Lufkin Adult Learning Center and St. Patrick Catholic Church Finance Council and school supporter, and former trustee of Kurth Memorial Library.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Grace Perez of Lufkin, TX; sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Suzanne Perez of Austin, TX and Joe and Angela Perez of Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Finley Grace and Zane Elliott Perez of Austin, TX; sisters and brother-in-law, Guadalupe Perez and Helen and Henry Florez; brother and sister-in-law, Manuel and Cindy Perez; sister-in-law, Agapita Perez; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Perez was preceded in death by his brother, Cecil Perez.
Casket bearers will be Gary Reser, Henry Elliott, Dominic Florez, Manuel Florez, Sam Gomez and Josh Theilenhaus.
Honorary casket bearer will be David Gonzales.
