Tory D. Buffington

Tory Dean Buffington was born March 9, 1967 in Kearney, NE to Sharon (West) and Ron Buffington.  He lived in several states with his family, graduated from Olathe North High School, and attended Kansas State University.

 Tory and Paige Updike married in 1986 and moved to Osceola, NE where they owned and operated a dry cleaning business.  They had a son, Joel Dean Buffington.  They later divorced.

 In 1993 Tory married Dahlia Poteat.  They became the owners of a dry cleaning plant in Lenexa, Ks.  To this union a son, Garrett Wendell was born completing a family including half sister, Tasha and half brother, William.

 Tory was an avid nature lover, enjoying time hunting, fishing, collecting Indian artifacts and exploring the beauty of outdoors.  Tory loved sharing his excitement for God, nature, and his family with his many friends, enriching their lives with his infectious laugh and keen sense of humor.

 Tory was baptized as a young boy and carried his religious convictions throughout his life.  After years of health issues, Tory passed away on July 10, 2011 at the age of 44 years.  He is survived by his parents; sister, Tara West Teague; sons, Joel and Garrett, step children, Tasha and William; niece, Riley Kaye; nephews, Evan Dean and Ty Jackson; cousins, Sara and Bill; and grandmother, Marjorie West. 

 Tory was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dean and Maxine Buffington and Wendell West.

 A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 18th at 6:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Christian Church, 11411 Quivera, Overland Park, Kansas.  The family will receive friends following the service. 

 Memorial contributions may be made to the Tory Buffington Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
