Retired Sgt. Major Duane “Bud” Fuller, 80, of Topeka, died June 28, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital.
He was born in Emporia, Kansas on June 5, 1931 the son of Delbert L. and Ferne (Rhudy) Fuller.
He served over 31 years in the Kansas National Guard where he retired with the rank of Sgt. Major.
After retirement he worked for Payless Shoe Source and later drove a courtesy van for John Hoffer Chrysler – Jeep.
He was a member of Orient Lodge #51 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies and the Arab Shrine Temple where he served with the Legion of Honor.
Bud loved to play golf, pool and bowl. He loved life, people and his dogs. Bud was a very caring and generous man.
He married Kathryn Barton in Topeka, Kansas on April 29, 1979. She survives. He is also survived by a son Dennis Fuller of Topeka and a daughter Debra Johnson of Topeka, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Bud will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Masonic Services being conducted by Orient Lodge #51 AF&AM. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the National Guard.
