Rachel Ortiz Rangel

Rachel Ortiz Rangel, 87, of Topeka, died June 13, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital.

She was born in Iraprato, GTO, Mexico on December 28, 1923 the daughter of Jesus and Socorro (Ortiz) Navarrate. 

Rachel was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and the Altar Society at the church.

Rachel married Jose Rangel in December of 1941, and he was killed in World War II in 1945.  She then married Fidel Rangel in Topeka, Kansas on April 6, 1946, and he preceded her in death on October 1, 2007.   She was also preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Amelia Tetuan and Virginia Baehr, and four brothers, Tony, Vincent, Socorro and Daniel Ortiz.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Rangel Jr. and wife Lola of Topeka, two grandsons, Joey Rangel III and his wife Chris of Topeka, Patrick Rangel and his wife Carrie of Lawrence, Ks., three great grandchildren, Stefan, Jaret and Gabby all of Topeka, three brothers, Tom Ortiz and wife Sue, Nick Ortiz and wife Helen, Benjamin Ortiz and wife Veva all of Topeka, and many nieces and nephews.

Rachel will lie in state at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church on Thursday where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m.  An Altar Society Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. and a Parish Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
