Salvador Reyes “Lucas” Ortiz, 82, of Topeka, died May 16, 2011 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on October 18, 1928 the son of Juan and Juana (Reyes) Gonzales.
Salvador served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne Division.
He was a Machinist for Allis-Chalmers and had previously worked for Hill’s Packing Company.
He was a very private person and loved his family and spending time with them. Salvador also enjoyed doing yard work and doing things around the house. He also enjoyed bowling and playing pool.
Salvador married Rose Bueno in Topeka, Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 18, 1978.
He is survived by three sons: Tony Bueno, Salvador Ortiz, Jr., Garth Ortiz, two daughters, Debbie Ortiz and Yvonne Ortiz, two brothers, Leo Gonzales and Alfonso Gonzales, one sister, Rachel (Gonzales) Root, all of Topeka. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Salvador will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 2:00 p.m. where a Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors conducted by Ft. Riley.
